FAQ – iPad Initiative
Q: What is the iPad program?
A: Launched in fall 2013, Lynn’s award-winning iPad initiative puts a powerful research and learning tool into the hands of our students. The program has contributed to Lynn’s accolades for innovation; the university ranks among the Most Innovative Schools (U.S. News and World Report) and has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School since 2014 for learning, teaching and campus environment. Among the many benefits of iPad learning are the cost reductions: students can save up to 90 percent off the cost of traditional textbooks with original e-books.
Q: What are the benefits of learning on an iPad?
A: iPad-powered learning makes it easy to complete work on the go. Lynn students can use the device’s many tools and preloaded apps to access resources from anywhere. U.S. News & World Report ranked the university among the Most Innovative Schools, a reflection of the engaging educational experiences we provide through digital tools and resources.
Q: Will the iPad have a data plan?
A: There is no data plan included. The devices are Wi-Fi enabled. Online students must have access to a wireless Internet connection from their home or other location or purchase their own data plan.
Q: What comes pre-loaded on my iPad?
A: Lynn pre-loads the devices with Mobile Iron, Canvas, eBooks, LynnU app and myLynn app. Mobile Iron allows Lynn to make available a complete set of pre-paid apps for students. The apps include productivity and collaboration tools, as well as faculty-selected apps for specific Lynn programs.
Q: I don’t know how to use an iPad. Is there training available?
A: Lynn will provide video tutorials. In addition, Apple has several resources available at: support.apple.com/ipad.
Q: Will I ever be required to purchase supplemental textbooks, or will everything be available through the iPad?
A: You will need to purchase some additional textbooks, because not all courses have corresponding eBooks. Lynn faculty-produced eBooks, where available, provide cost savings to students. eBooks are also available to help students lower their costs.
Q: What, if any, accessories are included with the iPad?
A: Your Lynn iPad comes with a power adapter and cord.
Q: Do I need a new iTunes account, or can I use my existing iTunes account?
A: It is up to you. We suggest that you set up a brand new account if you currently share your iTunes account with family members.
Q: Can I install Lynn apps on another device that I own?
A: Yes, you can access the Lynn apps through iTunes, using the same Apple ID as the one you use for your Lynn iPad.
Q: When will I receive my iPad?
A: iPads will be shipped prior to the student’s first term once the $100 instructional fee has been paid through eMarket. Students can also choose to pick up their iPad on-campus. Please note that students must be registered for classes before iPads are eligible for shipping.
Q: Can I use my iPad that I already own?
A: Yes, you can use your own iPad, provided it has 32GBs of storage capacity and is installed with both the latest version of iOS.
Q: What happens if I take a leave of absence or terminate the program early—do I have to return the iPad?
A: The iPad does not need to be returned once students have paid the instructional materials fee.
Q: If I already have an iPad with required apps, do I still need to pay the fee and purchase a new iPad?
A: No. Students who have the required software and an iPad already do not need to pay the instructional materials fee.
Q: Who is responsible for loss or damage of the iPad?
